Alexander McQueen 2017 Resort Collection
A little secret garden has been created at McQueen by Creative Director, Sarah Burton. For Alexander McQueen’s resort 2017 collection she has focused on silhouettes that have been inspired by the 1960’s of rural England. This year the Alexander McQueen 2017 resort collection balances structure and femininity together from styles such as balloon shaped sleeves, ruffles, A-line dresses and sculpted outerwear.
In an interview Sarah Burton was asked whether the flowers were printed on the garments and she said “No no, each one is hand-painted, and you see, it’s on leather.” There is no question to how beautiful these peonies, carnations, yellow roses, poppies and petals look on the leather that were inspired by British folk art and domestic interiors. The leather is an incredibly fine and soft one, hardly leather-looking at all and it has been treated as if it were a cloth.
“We thought we’d treat leather in a different way, as if it were fabric,”
For the Alexander McQueen 2017 year we will also see some very expertly knitted dresses, houndstooth prints and for evening wear sheer and embroidered gowns. Personally I loved the knitted dresses a lot and how intricate they are, Sarah Burton talks about them with pride: “The technology and machinery at our factory in Italy has advanced so much. What they can do now is so fine it looks like lace”. Knitted dresses, hand-painted clothes these are the sort of detail and work that usually goes into a couture piece and here we see Burton putting them out for Resort which is just fantastic!
