15 Tips On How To Get Rid Of Frizzy Hair
1. Choose a sulfate-free, glycerin-packed shampoo.
You need a shampoo without sulfate because the ones that have sulfate it dehydrates your hair strands and this is exactly the opposite of what you want when you want to maintain the moisture in your hair. Choosing a shampoo with high glycerin will help combat frizz and hydrate your hair shaft from the inside out. Not only will this hydrate it will also give a protective coating over the outside of the hair shaft which will make your hair strong and not break so easily. If you want to know how to get rid of frizzy hair easily start with this step as it’s one of the easiest ways to start. We already shampoo our hair, you might as well use the right one!
2. Don’t skip conditioner
If you have frizzy hair then you should never skip the conditioner step. You want all the moisture in your hair that is possible otherwise the hair cuticle will open up letting moisture in from the air and turning your hair from smooth to frizzy. Your conditioner should also contain glycerin and if possible try and choose one with other hydrating ingredients. For example, these ingredients could be coconut oil or shea butter. Another tip, when you apply conditioner, try and keep it away from your roots, apply it from mid-shaft down to your ends.
3. But do skip the shampoo.
Never skip conditioner but you can skip the shampoo sometimes. If your shampooing your hair several times in a week make sure that at least two times you skip the shampoo and only rinse your hair with conditioner. Conditioners contain a small number of surfactants, this is used in shampoos to cleanse your hair. Because of this, it will clean your hair without removing any natural oils from it.
4. Mask weekly.
Take some time out for your hair at least once a week and do some sort of treatment on it. Doing this and especially during the colder months, will help fill any holes in your hair shaft that soak up outside moisture and contribute to frizz. After masking your hair you will notice how smooth they become after.
5. Don’t blow-dry soaking wet hair.
Never blow-dry your soaking wet hair, you should let your hair air-dry around 80-90% of the way and then use a dryer on it. The hot hair from the dryer directly on your strands dehydrates it which makes it frizzy.
6. Use dry oil.
While your hair is still wet, apply a moisture-locking dry oil, like Dove Hair Therapy Nourishing Oil Care, from your ends to midway up your hair shaft. After your hair is about 90% dry, use a round brush that has those mixed bristles, this will help seal the cuticle for that smooth finish. It would be a good idea to use a flat-iron on your hair if you do after this because heat will seal the cuticle the most effectively.
7. Get frizz-free waves with buns.
Something that I do every time I wash my hair. I like to limit the amount of heat styling on my hair, so most of the time while my hair is drying I twist it into a bun. By doing this you will get some natural waves and your cuticles get the chance to lock into place which helps reduce the frizziness.
8. Use a cream hydrator and a diffuser for thick, coarse, and curly hair.
After you’ve shampooed and conditioned your hair, while it’s still wet, apply a cream-based product from root to tip. If you have curls wrap the product around your hair in the way you want to style it and let your strands air dry.
9. Caught in the rain? Try a dry conditioning spray.
Isn’t it the worst thing to be caught in the run while you have the most amazing blow dry. Of course, once rain hist your hair all that frizz is bound to set in. In this situation apply a dry conditioning spray it should help bring your hair back to its orginal state very quickly.
10. Use pins and hairspray (not serum) for flyaways.
Something I have a lot of, flyaways. In my experience serums don’t help settle down the flyaways, if you are styling your hair you should either use bobby pins or hairspray to slick down your hair.
11. Brush your hair upside down to distribute its natural oils.
I don’t brush my hair every day, they become very frizzy if I do. I prefer to let them air dry naturally. However when I do I flip my hair over and brush them upside down with a boar bristle brush. This helps to distribute the oils from your scalp/roots onto the rest of your hair. Try this step and notice how your hair will stay hydrated and it will block out humidity.
12. Wrap your hair in a silk scarf before going to sleep.
We have mentioned how sleeping on a silk pillow will benefit your hair in an older post and if you haven’t already done so then do it fast or wrap your hair up in a bun and tie a silk scarf around it before you sleep. This will help retain the moisture in your hair.
