Wedding Decor On Budget: DIY Wedding Sign Under ₹500

Weddings are such a fun time and especially Indian Weddings where you see a number of events, so many different colors, clothes, decoration etc. Now that my time has come to get married I can’t begin to explain how excited I am. We all have a certain picture of how we want our wedding to be whether it be a small or a grand affair. Last week Aayush and I got engaged and for the ceremony, I had the small details and look all planned out in my head and made sure it turned out like that. If you want things to be very specific and exactly how you want it you need to be involved all the time and even have to take care of certain things on your own. Both of us had decided that we don’t want to spend a huge amount of money on the decoration of the event and set a budget for ourselves. The problem we had was no decorator/company gave us a good price and this led us to take things into our hands because we knew what we were asking for could not cost as much. After this experience, we plan on being super involved when it comes to the decor for the wedding as well and I will be creating posts on all the best tips and ideas on how to stay on budget for a wedding. For last weeks event I will go over the entire decor in other posts but today I am going to start with something small but important. Below you will see a DIY wedding sign tutorial that I made for the entrance of our venue and it’s important because it’s the first thing your guests see as they walk in.

I wanted to have a personal touch to the event and plus as we didn’t go with a company who would arrange it for us, so I had to do it. We could have gone for a simple print out as well and this could be an option for you if you also want to stay on budget but I went with a wood look according to how it would match the rest of the decor. This was also not expensive from polish to paint it all cost around INR500. I had a board lying around in the office, I got it polished from a local shop and had a beautiful wooden board ready. Check out the steps below on what to do next to make your DIY wedding sign:

What you need:

  1. A board of your choice (either polished or painted)
  2. White acrylic paint
  3. Carbon paper
  4. Paintbrushes
  5. Tape
  6. Pen
  7. Print out of your content

  1. Set your content according to the size of your board and how you want it to look in photoshop and take a print out of it. Tip: It’s better to use a bold font so that it’s easy to fill in.
  2. Take some carbon paper, cover the area your text would come on and stick it onto the board with some tape with the color side facing the board.
  3. Tape on your print out on top of the carbon paper, make sure it doesn’t move.
  4. With a pen start tracing around all the letters.
  5. Remove the carbon paper and print out and you should see a full template of your content on the board.
  6. With a thin paintbrush start going over all the outlines with white paint.
  7. Once the outlines are done, go in with a flat paintbrush and fill in the letters.
  8. You might need to go in for a second coat.
  9. That’s it, your done!
